Why the Lapa district?
«Since our arrival in Lisbon, we have always lived in the same district called Lapa because we just love the life and energy of the area, the proximity to the Tejo river and the overall family vibe. »
Sophie’s favourite restaurants in Lisboa?
«I enjoy very much the feel and mood of Henrique Sá Pessoa’s universe. This young Portuguese chef revisits traditional cooking with a contemporary twist and a refined touch. On the high-end, try Alma, rua Anchietta or for a more reasonable budget: Henrique Sá Pessoa at the Ribeira market»
A good fish restaurant: Clube Naval de Lisboa, right on the Tejo in the Belem district»
A vintage shop?
«Luvaria Ulisses : tiny shop in the Chiado district (since 1925) where one can find the most elegant leather gloves in the city»
Place to buy typical items from Portugal ?
«The Golegã horse fair for its numerous artisans who work leather in traditional and original forms»
The Best Portuguese craftsmanship – artisans?
«Latoaria Maciel: Margarida Gamito and her husband took over this family business which has existed for 7 generations and which crafts beautiful traditional Portuguese lanterns»
The best hotel in Portugal ?
«The Palace Hotel do Bussaco near Coimbra: it is an ancient royal hunting retreat from the 19th century, converted into a Palace-Hotel in 1917. It is truly an amazing, one-of-a-kind place located in a beautiful forest with numerous works of art and magnificent frescoes».
You best art gallery ?
«The galleries participating in the Feira de Artes e Antiguidades, which takes place every year in April at the Cordoaria Nacional».
Food market ?
«The Ribeira Market for its diversity, especially the fishmonger, Rosanamar, for the pure freshness of her fish»
«Praia da Adraga in Sintra, next to Cabo da Roca»
